| The way we make, use and dispose of our clothes has become unsustainable. Textile production contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined, consuming lake-sized volumes of fresh water and creating chemical and plastic pollution. |
| Fashion, beign one of the UK’s key sectors, contributes a large part to UK;s GDP and remains a major UK employer with 890,000 jobs supported across the industry. |
| Because of its importance, clothing and textiles are identified as one of five key sectors where improved material efficiency and circularity has the potential to reduce the global carbon footprint of the UK, and also other countries across the world. |
| Decarbonising the fashion sector is challenging. The UK fashion is working hard to transform from ‘linear’ to ‘circular’, to reduce CO2 emissions, reduce water consumption and its overall environmental impact. |
The virtual conference brings together leading institutions, academic & research centres, universities and companies from both UK and Spain to showcase their expertise in sustainable fashion in practice. |
